Introduction

In 2019, MyValue Solutions, a Spanish open banking technology provider, shifted its focus from solely technological excellence to elevate its visual identity and user experience to the same level.

As product designer, I played a key role in this transformation, alongside our Design team. Together we created a new visual universe for the company and designed our white-label Personal and Business Finance Management (PFM/BFM) solutions, empowering banks to offer enhanced financial tools to their customers.

These solutions, designed for modularity, responsiveness, and brand customization, ultimately played an important role in MyValue's successful acquisition by Finleap Connect in 2021.

The challenge

The challenge

MyValue faced a significant challenge: to elevate its brand and product offerings to compete in the demanding open banking market. This meant more than just a visual refresh.

It required a fundamental shift in how we approached design and development. Beyond creating a new visual identity and enhancing user experience, we had to design solutions that could be seamlessly integrated into the branding of our clients.

This white-label requirement dominated every aspect of the project, from the development of flexible and scalable design system to highly adaptable functionalities and processes.

When the project started, the visual identity and interface of the products were completely outdated and lacking design — as they were initially built only by engineers focusing on the technological quality and complexity:

Design process

Design process

We needed to analyze before seeking a solution and understand the needs of customers, users and developers before designing:

- Review of 1K historical user history
- Customer and end-user interviews
- Typeform surveys within the application
- Tracking and measuring (Analytics, Hotjar)
- Communication with each team

White-label design system

White-label design system

The most signifant part for the project’s success was to develop a white-label design system that could be easily adapted to different bank brands, while maintaining a consistent user experience and adhering to accessibility standards.

We tackled this by creating a modular system of components with customizable parameters for colors, fonts and effects. This allowed banks to easily integrate the PFM/BFM solutions into their existing apps and maintain brand consistency. This modularity also proved beneficial internally, speeding up our design process and allowing us to iterate quickly on new features.

Different user experiences

Different user experiences

Recognizing the distinct needs of individual and business users, we made the strategic decision to create separate visual styles and user flows for each. While maintaining a consistent underlying design system, we tailored the interface and functionalities to cater to the specific requirements of each group.

For example, the business user solutions emphasized financial reporting and invoicing, while the individual user solutions focused more on transaction and expense tracking. This allowed us to provide a more relevant and intuitive experience for both target audiences.

All the functionalities were powered by our strong account aggregation and categorisation solutions that served as the backbone for everything else.
